How to Dream More

Welcome! Here you’ll find my top 3 ways to increase dream vividness, retention and frequency.

Disclaimer: not a doctor, just a dreamer

1. Sobriety

I’m not talking about going to bed sober a few nights a week, I’m taking about an extended period of sobriety.

Ya ya party pooper I know .. just hear me out

Weed, alcohol & drugs decrease REM sleep, which is the sleep cycles in which we dream. You may experience mild dreaming while on the sauce.. but if you’re looking to truly increase your dreaming or experience lucid dreaming (and if you’re still reading this, you most likely are) then your body needs some time to process out the murky debris currently in your system. The channel must be clear and open.

Try at least 3-4 weeks of sobriety, the first week will be your body adjusting so you may not see results right away. The more you practice, the easier it will be for your body to enter dreamspace. Also your REM sleep will improve, which is linked to learning, emotional health, and memory retention. Which brings me to my second point…

2. Dream Log

Writing your dreams down as soon as you wake up will help your brain recall & retain them easier. Keep a notebook beside your bed (I’ve slept with my book open IN my bed on particularly lucid occasions haha) & write as much as you can remember.

3. Personal Sleep Space

Having your own bed/bedroom can improve dreaming. When I sleep in the same bed as my partner, I do not dream nearly as much as when I sleep in my own space.

We all have different circadian rhythms. We each have different sleep needs. Getting to know your sleep & dream patterns (ex: what time of night you dream, what position the body is in) is easily done when you have your own space to explore that.

Those are my top 3 ways to dream more; I hope you found this helpful & interesting. If you’d like to share your dreaming techniques, please leave a comment below!

See you in the astral plane🖖
