what does it mean to be family?

family is everything

all of it

and lots of it

every family has a story

many many details and layers

what makes family feel so wild?

you know

we reflect each other

at each other

in times of sadness

in times of joy

in times of chaos

in times of peace

in times of separation

in times of connection

always

it’s wild to look at yourself

through the lens of family

it’s easy to put our imbalances on family

claiming

“what i see

is not me”

yet the sameness cannot be ignored

there is no difference between you and i

moi et toi

okay, maybe subtle differences

but why focus on that?

it’s all just energy

and energy don’t lie

it’s pure truth

that’s why kids can see through bullshit

they feel it

that’s also why they giggle at random words

the energy tickles them

at the most opportune moment

it doesn’t have to make sense

it’s always changing

evolving

expanding

in your favour

(if you want it to)

so let it

so be it

nothing will ever really be absolute

cracks eventually form in the concrete

and plants bust through

system-busters

landscape shifters

perspective e x p a n d e r s

like water

and water takes the path of least resistance

spent the last 4 days at mom & dad’s

learned so much

like way more than i can put into words

but here’s a few…

my great great grandmother

(mimi’s mother’s mother)

was a fortune teller, palm reader & dream interpreter at crystal beach, lake erie

madam venders

was one of her names

she dressed in all white for her performances

which matched her white hair

and she had a glass eye

mom has lent me the book madam venders used for dream interpretation and astrology

it is from 1940

the pages are delicate

the language

despite being of a different era

reads light and clear

the content.. fascinating!

another thing i learned this weekend is

because the earth is round

you never truly walk in a straight line

…

this blew my mind

made me gasp & laugh

if there’s no such thing as a straight line

then what the heck are we so worried about?

you’re always going to be walking

in some direction

no need to fuss whether it’s straight

always rotating

always spiralling
